Boulder

Beautiful Boulder was founded by gold seekers, the first non-native settlers in Boulder County, who made camp in 1858 at Red Rocks near the entrance to Boulder Canyon. One year later, the Boulder City Town Company was organized and 4,044 lots were identified at a purchase price of $1,000 each. Legislation was passed in 1861 to designate Boulder as the site for a state university, and the University of Colorado came about in the mid-1870s, and of course old CU is still there, thriving with more than 30,000 students. Today, Boulder is 25.48 square miles with a population of 103,650 and 44,970 housing units and many businesses, all of whom enjoy life under the Colorado sun and in the shadow of the Flatirons.
