Thornton

Named in honor of former Colorado Governor Dan Thornton, Thornton, CO was little more than farmland until 1953 when developer Sam Hoffman purchased a lot seven miles north of Denver off of Washington Street and laid out a town. Incorporated in 1956, Thornton is now the 6th largest Colorado city by population, with some 119,000 residents counted in the 2010 US Census.
