Lakewood
While many of the Denver metro area’s cities are historical locations, Lakewood, CO is one of the newbies. It actually goes back as a suburban community to 1879 when it was platted along Colfax Avenue west of Denver, and it grew to the late 1960s to have a population of around 90,000 people. But Lakewood didn’t become an incorporated city until 1969, and now, with Almost 143,000 residents in 2010, it is Colorado’s 5th largest city.
